So close, yet so far….

I have the summer itch.

It’s about that time. All I can think about it warm weather and cool ocean water. My summer seems to be pretty full already, but I know I can fit some good times in. All I need to hope for is some good weather in the city and I’ll be golden. Here is a small sampling of ideas I’m tossing around.

– Canoeing on the Russian River. We did this a few years ago and had a blast through Burkes

Ummmm….yes!

I don’t think you know how excited I am about Michonne finally joining the group in The Walking Dead!

She is such a badass

Looking back at SXSW

SXSW was amazing.

I came home and slept for 14 hours and still haven’t managed to get my voice back, but it was well worth the 8 days of mayhem.

It was also worth the few things I was able to bring home:

I bought these prints from Two Arms, they are an amazing design duo based out of Brooklyn, I had to cradle these suckers on my lap the entire way home on the plane, but it was totally worth it.

I found the vintage Disneyland lunchbox and the Isaac Asimov book at Uncommon Objects, which might be the most amazing store ever.

This was the first time Space Dog Books had a booth and the response was overwhelming. I’m not just saying that. I was, literally, overwhelmed. Day one of the booth, all four of us had a line of people wanting to talk to us. It was insane. I couldn’t be more grateful for anyone who stopped by, the people we met were absolutely amazing. I made some new friends that I had a blast with and now I think I need to sleep for three more day until I’m full recovered.

Until next year, SXSW……

The Weekender: Kelly Green for Spring

I have been kind of obsessing over kelly green lately. I don’t actually own this dress, but I wish I did, the possibilities are endless.

SXSW Day One

I completely jinxed myself yesterday morning.

Having travelled a lot I have gotten pretty proficient at packing. I used to just throw stuff in a bag last-minute and figure out what I was going to wear when I got to my destination. This trip, I took some great advice and packed fewer items in the same color palette, so I could mix and match to my heart’s content. But I started off the morning bragging about how good at travelling I was getting. I had not left the house at this point, come to think of it, hadn’t even finished packing….

We get in the car.

“Oh, Jenna, did you bring this?”

“Oh, crap, no.”

“Did you remember to pack that?”

“Ummm…..”

Off to a great start…

I get to the airport, manage to check in and get to security and it turns out I booked my ticket in my maiden name. I also refused to take blame, so I’m standing in lines for an hour and telling Victoria “I don’t know how Chad even knows my maiden name to book the ticket.” Well, smart-ass, because he doesn’t. I booked the freaking ticket. It was my fault.

We get everything figured out and get through security and it turns out Victoria accidentally left her mother pocket knife in a pocket of her camera bag. So back through security she went to mail it back to herself.

So lesson learned….Don’t brag about how good a traveller before you leave the house, your setting yourself up for disaster.

We did arrive to a fabulous dinner c/o Vic’s dad and our co-workers at the hotel with tons of merch and stuff for our booth! So exciting!

Getting ready….

I’m leaving tomorrow for SXSW! I’m so excited. I’ve tried to plan out what I’m going to wear, but I decided to just wing it. BUT I am thinking I’m putting this outfit together asap. It’s way too cute.

On another note: Hooray for Emily Blunt!

In New York’s Vulture Magazine she said this about passing up the opportunity to work on Iron Man 2 and Captain America:

Usually the female parts in a superhero film feel thankless: She’s the pill girlfriend while the guys are whizzing around saving the world. I didn’t do the other ones because the part wasn’t very good or the timing wasn’t right, but I’m open to any kind of genre if the part is great and fun and different and a challenge in some way. I would love to do a comic-book movie or a science-fiction film that would scare the bejesus out of me. Maybe I need to be James Bond! I just did Looper, because it’s so original and breathtakingly cool. The time-travel aspect is just a backdrop to visit this heightened world, where you’re atoning for something and attempting to be more than you’ve been.

I just became even more of an Emily Blunt fan! I am also way more excited for Looper, which is an upcoming film by Rian Johnson, one of my favorite directors! Johnson is the writer-director of the film Brick and The Brothers Bloom, check them out!

On another note: This blog may or may-not be a huge reference to The Brother Bloom.

The Perfect Coffee Station

I posted last week about focusing my home and really asking myself what would make my life easier when it comes to organizing. So I asked myself a few questions about how I use my kitchen.

What function do I use my kitchen for? Easy. Coffee.

I cook, but not really. Coffee is the real focus in my house.

So, I decided to set myself up a little coffee station.

I stored both my caffeinated and decaffeinated beans in glass canisters, along with the coffee filters. The shorter one I got at Ikea years ago and the round canisters I got at Cost Plus, there is a similar one at Target but it doesn’t have the rubber seal thing that keeps the beans fresh. Now, everything is a lot easier to get to, which in the morning is important. I don’t have to fuss with drawers or cabinets, it’s all there and is always clean because there is no other option. I love it!

Second question.

What do I see as one of the biggest problems in my kitchen?

The clutter! Mostly due to the insane amount of coffee cups that pile up. I just counted, I have 23 coffee mugs, not a single one of them is clean. So I’m nixing all the mugs and buying a new set of six (and maybe keeping one or two mugs for sentimental reasons). That way I get rid of the clunky mis-matched look of the hand me down mugs and will have a limited amount to clutter.

Oh, Happy Day!

This past weekend the sun was shining in San Francisco. Even better? It was warm.

Now, I’m sure you’ve heard about weather in the city, and while it’s not exactly foggy here, like everyone thinks, it’s not usually this warm….in March. So we decided to take advantage and go for a hike with the dogs up to Sea Cliffs and the Sutro Baths. Needless to say, it was beautiful!

Let’s Go Fly A Kite….Through Time and Space

Did anyone see Mary Poppins in the Google street view of Roald Dahl Plass?

I got super giddy and talked nonstop about it for a full day.

If you don’t know the reference, don’t fear, I’m not going to explain it, because truth is, if you don’t already know, you probably don’t care. But I do. So I’m sharing.

If you do want to know. I will tell you all about it. 🙂

The Weekender: How To Wear Bright Denim

I just bought my first pair of bright colored jeans! This is not a trend that I thought I would get into, but my wardrobe needed a bit of a mix up and I knew of a few ways I could add it in.

What’s even better? I have been running around like a mad person trying to find the right pair for my body (if I’m going to rock something out of my comfort zone, they’d better fit perfectly) and I found the perfect pair at Target for a little more than $20!

Here is a few ways I plan on mixing it up. I’m trying to stay away from your standard white or black tees, but I’m sure they will be added into the flow.
