State of the Art

Last night, Tommy and I saw Gotye! It hands down one of the most interesting shows I have ever been to. Not only was he an amazing performer, but every aspect of the stage seems so curated. Gotye drummed and sang and ran around hitting triangles and samplers like a mad scientist, but it all seemed to have a purpose and gave you a sense of how intricate his music really is.

One of my favorite aspects (beside watching him drum, which was amazing) was the animated videos playing behind him. Most of them were his music videos, which are beautiful to begin with, others were new. One of my favorites featured a man peeling off his shirt, then his whole body, becoming a bear, and back to a man again as he repeatedly pulled layers off. Everything felt emotive and set the mood.

My favorite videos

Squashing Monday Blues

Summer is coming! The temperature might be high 50’s, but the sun is out and they days are getting longer, which means summer is close! I have been obsessively planning out my summer activities. One activity I plan on participating in a lot, is going to the beach. Last year we went to the beach with my family only a few times, so this year I’m making an extra effort to go. San Francisco beaches, just don’t hold up. I’m actually a little terrified of them. So, I will be making a lot of trips to socal, solely to surf/paddleboard with my family. Which, I think is awesome! There is nothing that makes me happier than planning a beach day, especially on a Monday!

Below are essentials for any successful beach trip!

Also, nothing puts me in a better mood than River Deep – Mountain High. So, daydream about the beach, sing along to some Tina and enjoy your Monday.

Jean Paul Gaultier at the de Young

A few days ago I had the pleasure of attending the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit with my dear friend Kim. I can’t even describe how amazing it was. It was gorgeous and cutting-edge, with a sly sense of humor.  Talking mannequins are spread throughout the exhibit, they talk to you, they sing, they even talk to themselves in the mirror. They had a room dedicated to his corsets (Madonna cone bra included) and a room dedicated to his amazing film work, including City of Lost Children and The Fifth Element. It was just fantastic! I recommend it to Gaultier fans as well as people not as familiar with his work, it was such a great experience.

The exhibit is open until August 19, 2012 at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park

Oh, Happy Day!

This past weekend the sun was shining in San Francisco. Even better? It was warm.

Now, I’m sure you’ve heard about weather in the city, and while it’s not exactly foggy here, like everyone thinks, it’s not usually this warm….in March. So we decided to take advantage and go for a hike with the dogs up to Sea Cliffs and the Sutro Baths. Needless to say, it was beautiful!
